The National Curriculum mandates 21st century learning for all schools across Australia in 2014. The introduction of 21st century learning is focused on helping students to learn to be effective and independent life long learners in our modern and rapidly changing world. Anywhere, anytime learning. The technology team at Northmead Public School has been working hard in 2014 to ensure students have the best opportunities with the technology available.
Over the next few weeks, the installation of WiFi across the school will be complete. This has been a long process, installing new outlets, cabling and access points. This will enable 21st century learning via a variety of devices to be accessed throughout the school. Once the WiFi is complete, Mrs Kane and Mr Gorrie will have the iPads, funded by the P+C to be setup and used in the classroom to assist with student learning. It is a very exciting time for the Northmead Public School community.
During Week 4, class 2A received their new interactive SMART board. Every classroom at Northmead Public School is equipped with a regularly used SMART Board to improve student motivation and performance by making inquiry-based learning a dynamic classroom experience.
Mrs Cresswell has organised a free 30-day trial for a Northmead Public School App using Skoolbag. This will allow a variety of tools for parents and guardians including a calendar, push notifications for communication, newsletters and access to permission notes. After the trial period, the ICT Committee will survey staff and parents to record the advantages and limitations of the App.
